Update Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)


It's know that noncommunicable diseases (NCD), the are main factors that caused death in 2012. Around the world, an estimated 56 million people die because of the NCD, Currently, the incidence of NCD continues to increase, including the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

 On data in prevalence each vary country, systemic studies in Asia Pacific show data incidence of 0.9 to 3.1/100,000 inhabitants / year. Prevalence of approximately 4.3 to 45.3/100,000 inhabitants.

An institution of studies lupus in the United States estimates that 1.5 million cases occur in the United States and at least five cases occur in the world, each year is estimated at around 16 thousand new cases of lupus.

In Indonesia, the exact number of people with lupus is unknown. The prevalence of patients with lupus in the community is based on a survey conducted by Prof. Handono Kalim, et al., In their research in Malang showed a rate of 0.5% of the total population observed.

The increase in the number of cases of lupus in Indonesia should be monitored by the public paying special attention because the diagnosis of lupus is not easy and often too late. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), known as "a thousand-sided" disease, is a chronic autoimmune disease that has no clear cause, has a broad clinical picture and a very diverse sample of the trips of the disease. This often leads to errors in the recognition of lupus, causing delays in diagnosis and also in the management of lupus cases.

Lupus can affect anyone, although lupus mainly affects women of childbearing age (15 to 44 years), but men, groups of children and young men can also get lupus. This disease can also attack all types of races, but is more commonly found in colored races. Research on lupus in America in 2013 found that lupus was found in women of color (African-American, Hispanics / American Latin, Asia, Native America, Alaska, Hawaii and other Pacific islands), two to three times more than Caucasian women.
